The basic steps for wall and ceiling repair patches include the following:
CLEAN UP AND PREPARATION: First, use a scraper or trowel to thoroughly scrape away any loose and peeling siding, making sure to scrape cleanly without leaving any loose parts. Then use sandpaper to smooth the edges, making sure the repair area is flush with the surrounding wall. Next, clean the repair area with a damp cloth or rag to remove dust and debris, and wait for the surface to dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Fill Cracks and Holes: For small cracks and holes, you can fill them directly with caulk. Use a plaster knife or trowel to spread the caulk evenly into the cracks or holes, making sure to fill them well. For larger cracks or holes, consider using gypsum board to repair them. Cut plasterboard to the right size and secure it to the peeling area, then fill in the gaps around the edges with caulk.
Sand flat: Wait for the caulk or plaster to dry (according to the time on the product instructions), then sand the repair area flat with sandpaper. Use light pressure when sanding to avoid damaging the surrounding intact wall surface.
APPLY PRIMER AND TOP COAT: Apply a coat of primer to the patched area, this helps to improve paint adhesion and gives a more even final surface. Once the primer is dry, lightly sand the area with sandpaper and then clean the surface. Then choose a paint that matches the original ceiling color and apply it evenly using a paint brush or roller. For better results, apply two coats of topcoat, with the second coat applied after the first is dry.
Inspection and Correction: Inspect the patched area carefully and make partial corrections if any unevenness or uneven color is found. Make sure the paint is completely dry for the repair to last!
